Erin's work is about family. Her great grandmother's collection of vintage mother of pearl buttons was the initial inspiration. She was attracted to the round shapes and flawed surfaces that reflected the history of her family. They told the story of the wearer with their nicks and bruises, imperfections and stoic beauty. She desired to continue this story in a unique way and with the required reverence. Working with these buttons as precious stones, Erin gave them a new life and a new purposeto be admired for their beauty and not their utility. The circles are a metaphor for unity and wholeness, a reflection of the outer world and our inner selves. The fusion of materials and sensibilities creates a flowing, sensual statement. The work is uniquely feminine and equally inspiring.
Industrial diamonds tumble loosely on textured silver. Silk and Rayon fibers weave through silver as if it were fabric. Layered mother of pearl and abalone discs set a tidy stage for the sparkle of semi-precious stones. A vintage button closure holds a tightly woven silk ribbon snugly around the neck. A beautiful baby peers out from beneath a domed enclosure surrounded by words of love.
